The Bible is a wonderful book of encouragement and it's also a book to be revered. With all the troubles we face as a Christian people it's nice to open the Bible to passages of encouragement and hope. This week as I was reading in Revelation I read a passage that I've read many times, but it was a passage that I needed to read again as it encourages me to continue to be faithful to the Lord. John wrote " And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son." Revelation 21:6-7
Continuing in this passage there are words of warning. As Paul Harvey used to say "And now the rest of the story." John goes on to warn against unbelief and wrong living. The society we live in as Christians has become increasingly immoral in nature, and the things that were once frowned upon have become the norm. We must turn from all wickedness or face the consequences. "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." Revelation 21:8 We as Christians need to share both the "Good News" of the Gospel, but we also must give warning so that nobody perishes.
