As this year nears an end people are already looking forward to next year. New Year’s resolutions are already being talked about, and people are making plans for the New Year. Most New Year’s resolutions are focused on self… eat healthier, lose weight, exercise more, save money, find a new job, and the list goes on and on. We live in a self-centered society, and people are so focused on themselves that they even spend time taking pictures called “selfies.”

I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with trying to be healthier, but our spiritual health is equally important. How many people make a New Year’s resolution to… go to church more, read the bible, spend more time in prayer, or walk closer with the Lord? Let’s try something different this year and put God ahead of self when making our resolutions!

People are busy, and it’s hard to find time to take care of ourselves both physically and spiritually. We must make an effort to take care of both. Diet and exercise are important for our physical health. Going to church and spending time helping and encouraging one another are vital to our spiritual health. My hope is that everyone would make a resolution to attend church this year. Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” I hope everyone has a Blessed New Year!
